First Day At The Sunday Times

Today was my first day at The Sunday Times Style Magazine.

I woke up this morning and got myself dressed in smart attire. I had high waisted cigarette trousers on with a smart blouse, packed my satchel with my lunch, Diary (of course!),  notebook, pencil case, purse and makeup. I headed to the train station at 7:20 to get the 7:38 train to London Bridge (I literally live right next to the station it takes three minutes to get there but I like being early lol) and got on the train and I was away.

The building I would be working in was the News Building otherwise known as the 'mini shard.' The new building is opposite of the Shard and was basically a baby Shard. On arrival it was overwhelming especially knowing that I would be working within this magnificent building also accommodating many different companies from The Sun, The Sunday Times, Harper Collins, The Times and many more. I made my way to reception and signed in and received my own lanyard which I would need with me everyday to get to the other side of the security barriers. Whilst waiting in reception I saw famous faces and people I had seen in the Media. I was then told to make way to the 7th Floor.

I got to the 7th floor in the most fasted lift I think I have ever been in! I made my way through the glass doors and was taken aback by the magnificent view of London from this building. I looked for the lady I had been in contact with about my internship and asked several people if they had seen her, who told me 'I don't know who that is." Not letting that put me off I looked around the building which goes in one big massive circle and I eventually found the Style team where I  met the lady I had been in contact with and she sat me down and introduced me into the role. She gave me a big black folder of information of addresses, contacts, day to day tasks, logins, social media pack and all sorts of information in this one folder. I read through and familiarised myself with the day to day tasks. First I was to collect all the newspapers and look for coverage. I am not a person to be afraid to ask things so straight away I went to the lady who hired me and asked her where I would find these newspapers. She showed me where I could grab these from and then showed me to the communal areas and told me when my lunch was and where I would find the mail to hand to all the people who worked on the style magazine. I grabbed the mail along with about 9 different types of newspapers and sat back at my desk (which was away from all the directors and people who worked on the magazine) and began to revise all the names of the people who worked on the magazine (which I already did my research on) I revised where they all sat and began to hand out the mail to them. With no Thanks I sat back at my desk trying to find coverage. There was no information about this in my pack so again I got up and walked to the other side of the room where the professionals sit and asked the lady who recruited me who gave me a rough idea and told me she would email it to me. We communicated through the use of email no-one really got up and spoke to one another it was all done digitally.

After my task of finding coverage, I then was given the task to transcript an interview with the Head of Fashion, Claudia Croft and Uniqlo, which I spent my whole afternoon writing up. Before I knew it 5 o'clock was here and I was told to go home and continue with that tomorrow. I enjoyed learning new things today and will come back to you when I have finished my first week.
